Qahal (קָהָל) — The Living Assembly of Yisra’ĕl
📜 Scriptural Foundation
“I will declare Thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the Qahal [קָהָל / congregation / assembly] will I praise Thee.”
— Tehillim (Psalms) 22:22; cited in Ibriyim (Hebrews) 2:12“This is he [Moses], that was in the assembly [ekklesia / Qahal] in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sinai, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us.”
— Ma’asim (Acts) 7:38“And I say also unto thee… upon this rock I will build My assembly [Qahal / Ekklesia]; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
— Mattithyahu (Matthew) 16:18
🧭 Master Definition & Linguistic Root
Qahal (pronounced kah-HAHL, spelled קָהָל in Hebrew) and its Greek equivalent in the Septuagint and Apostolic scriptures Ekklesia (ἐκκλησία) literally means:
“THE CALLED-OUT ONES / THE GATHERED ASSEMBLY OF LIVING PEOPLE.”
Scriptural Reality:
- In the Bible, a Qahal / Assembly is ALWAYS PEOPLE, never a stone building, cathedral, denominational corporate hierarchy, or steeple house.
- When Acts 7:38 speaks of the “assembly [ekklesia] in the wilderness” under Moses at Mount Sinai, the King James translators translated ekklesia as “church”!
- This proves beyond doubt that the “church” in the New Testament is NOT a new Roman Gentile institution founded at Pentecost, but the continuation of the ancient Hebrew Qahal of Yisra’ĕl redeemed through the blood of Messiah Yahusha!
🚫 The Pagan Origin of “Church” (Circe the Enchantress)
Why is the word “Church” a deceptive substitute?
- Circe (Kirke) — The Greek Sorceress:
- In Homer’s Odyssey, Circe (Kirke / Kírkē) was the mythological daughter of the sun god Helios. She lived on an island surrounded by bewitched wolves and lions, famous for handing men a golden cup of drugged wine (pharmakeia) that turned them into swine.
- Revelation 17:4 describes Mystery Babylon holding the exact same golden cup of wine that bewitches all the kings of the earth!
- Kuriakon (The Emperor’s Domain):
- The word “Church” entered Germanic/English through the Greek word Kuriakon dōma (the house of the master/emperor Kurios), Scottish kirk, and German Kirche.
- It shifted believers from seeing themselves as an autonomous, living body of called-out brothers and sisters into serfs who must go into an official state-sanctioned stone temple overseen by a salaried clergy.
🔄 Contrast: The Qahal vs. The Church System
| Scriptural Qahal (Ekklesia) | The Man-Made Church System |
|---|---|
| A Living Body of People (“Ye are the temple”) | A Physical Building / Physical Property (“Go to church”) |
| No Clergy/Laity Division (All brethren, one High Priest) | Rigid Nicolaitan Hierarchy (Priests, pastors, popes over laity) |
| Keeps the 364-Day Sabbath & Moedim | Keeps Sun-day, Christmas, and Easter |
| Proclaims Yahuah and Yahusha | Chants “Lord”, “God”, and “Jesus” |
| Governed by the Torah of Life | Teaches the Torah is abolished and nailed to a cross |
