✦ THE 12 EMISSARIES (SHELUCHIM) OF YAHUSHA ✦
The Hebraic Reality
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you that you should go and bring forth fruit.” — Yochanan (John) 15:16
The 12 men who walked with Yahusha were not Greek philosophers or Roman monks. They were 12 Hebrew men representing the 12 Tribes of Israel. Their original names proclaim the character, grace, and personal Name of Yahuah.

2. The Comprehensive Dossier of the 12 Emissaries
| # | Western English Name | Restored Hebrew / Aramaic Name | Hebrew Script | Etymological Meaning | Prophetic & Scriptural Role |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kefa (Peter) (Simon Peter) | Shim’on Kepha | שִׁמְעוֹן כֵּיפָא | “He who hears and obeys”; Aramaic: “Living Stone / Rock” | Renamed Kepha by Yahusha (Matt 16:18). Rome corrupted Kepha into Petros / Kefa (Peter) to align with the Latin stone idol Jupiter-Petor. |
| 2 | Andrew | Andrai (Netan’el) | אַנְדְּרַי | “Manly / Courageous” (Aramaic loan form); Hebrew: “Gift of El” | Brother of Shim’on; formerly a disciple of Yochanan the Immerser. The first to proclaim: “We have found the Mashiach!” (John 1:41). |
| 3 | James (the Elder) | Ya’akov ben Zabdiel | יַעֲקֹב בֶּן זַבְדִּיאֵל | “Heel-catcher / He who prevails with Elohim” | English bibles replaced Jacob with “James” to flatter King James I of England in 1611. First emissary martyred by Agrippa (Acts 12:2). |
| 4 | John | Yochanan ben Zabdiel | יוֹחָנָן בֶּן זַבְדִּיאֵל | “Yahuah is Gracious / Yahuah has shown favor” | Notice the Father’s Name (YOH / YAH) is embedded in his name! Known as the disciple whom Yahusha loved; author of the Gospel, Epistles, and Revelation (Chazon). |
| 5 | Philip | Pilipos | פִילִיפּוֹס | “Lover of Horses” (Hebrew covenant equivalent: Yedidyah) | From Bethsaida; brought Nathanael to Yahusha saying: “We have found Him of whom Mosheh in the Torah and the prophets did write!” (John 1:45). |
| 6 | Bartholomew | Bar-Talmai (Nathanael) | בַּר־תַּלְמַי (נְתַנְאֵל) | Aramaic: “Son of the Plowman / Furrow”; Hebrew: “Gift of Elohim” | The Israelite without guile whom Yahusha saw under the fig tree (John 1:47–49). |
| 7 | Matthew (Levi) | Mattithyahu (Levi) | מַתִּתְיָהוּ | “Gift of Yahuah” (Mattat = Gift + Yahu = Yahuah) | Tax collector called from the toll booth; his name loudly proclaims the full sacred Name Yahuah! Author of the first restored gospel witness. |
| 8 | Thomas | Te’oma (Didymos) | תְּאוֹמָא | Aramaic: “Twin” (Greek translated it as Didymos) | Bold emissary who demanded physical tactile proof of Yahusha’s bodily resurrection from the dust: “My Master and my Elohim!” (John 20:28). |
| 9 | James (the Younger) | Ya’akov ben Chalphai | יַעֲקֹב בֶּן חַלְפַי | “He who prevails; Son of Exchange” | Son of Alphaeus; another Jacob whose identity was erased by church translators using the royal English substitution “James”. |
| 10 | Thaddaeus (Jude / Lebbaeus) | Yehudah ben Ya’akov | יְהוּדָה לַבַּאי | “Praised be Yahuah”; Lebbaeus = “Man of Heart / Courage” | English bibles invented the name “Jude” to avoid confusing him with Judas, but both held the royal tribal name of the kings: Yehudah (John 14:22). |
| 11 | Simon the Zealot | Shim’on Ha’Qana’i | שִׁמְעוֹן הַקַּנָּאִי | “He who hears; The Zealous / Jealous One” | A passionate keeper of the Torah and defender of Hebrew sovereignty against Roman imperial occupation before following Yahusha. |
| 12 | Judas Iscariot | Yehudah Ish-Qiryoth | יְהוּדָה אִישׁ־קְרִיּוֹת | “Praised be Yahuah; Man of Kerioth (City of Judah)” | The treasurer who betrayed the Master for 30 pieces of silver, fulfilling Zechariah 11:12 and Psalm 41:9. |
| 13 | Matthias (The 12th Restored) | Mattithyah | מַתִּתְיָה | “Gift of Yahuah” (Shortened form of Mattithyahu) | Chosen by lot in Acts 1:21–26 to complete the 12 foundation stones, having witnessed the ministry from John’s immersion unto the resurrection. |
3. The 3 Hidden Truths Revealed by Their Names
1. The Father’s Name was on Their Lips and in Their Names
Notice how many of the 12 carried names explicitly shouting YAHUAH:
- Mattithyahu: Gift of YAHUAH
- Mattithyah: Gift of YAHUAH
- Yochanan: YAHUAH is Gracious
- Yehudah (x2): Praised be YAHUAH
How could the disciples be afraid to speak the sacred Name (as Rabbinic tradition falsely claims) when their very legal identity shouted YAH and YAHU every time they were introduced?
2. The “James” Deception Exposed
There is no letter “J” in Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek.
- In the original text, the brother of Yahusha and the two emissaries are named Ya’akov (Jacob).
- In 1611, King James I of England financed the King James Bible. To flatter the British monarch, the translators took the Hebrew patriarch name Ya’akov (Iakobos in Greek) and translated it as James in the Renewed Covenant, while leaving it as Jacob in the Torah.
- This artificially severed the New Testament from the Old Testament patriarchs!
3. The 12 Emissaries Represent the 12 Tribes
Yahusha chose exactly twelve men for a legal covenant purpose:
“Verily I say unto you, That you which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of Adam shall sit in the throne of his glory, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” — Mattithyahu 19:28
In Revelation (Chazon) 21:14, the 12 foundation stones of the New Jerusalem bear the 12 names of the twelve emissaries of the Lamb—written in Hebrew, not in Greek or English!
