Torah (תּוֹרָה) — The Loving Instructions of Life
📜 Scriptural Foundation
“Open Thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of Thy Torah.”
— Tehillim (Psalms) 119:18“Because that Abraham obeyed My voice, and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws [Torotai / תּוֹרֹתָי].”
— Barashit (Genesis) 26:5“Think not that I am come to destroy the Torah [Law], or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil [pleroo — to fully preach / fill to the brim]. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”
— Mattithyahu (Matthew) 5:17–18
🧭 Master Definition & Linguistic Root
Torah (pronounced toh-RAH, spelled תּוֹרָה in Hebrew) does NOT mean “cold legalistic law”. Its ancient Hebraic root literally means:
“LOVING FATHERLY GUIDANCE, TEACHING, AND INSTRUCTION DESIGNED TO HIT THE MARK OF LIFE.”
Linguistic Anatomy:
- Root Verb: Yarah (יָרָה):
- To shoot an arrow toward a target or cast a lot.
- An archer aims an arrow so it hits the bullseye (the target of life, health, and blessing).
- In contrast, the Hebrew word for “sin” is Chatah (חָטָא), which literally means “to miss the mark”!
- The Maternal/Paternal Noun:
- In ancient Hebrew homes, Torah was the instruction a loving father and mother gave to their children to keep them from touching poisonous berries, falling off cliffs, or dying of disease (Proverbs 1:8).
- The Torah of Yahuah is the Creator’s divine operating manual for biological, spiritual, moral, and cosmic life.
🚫 The Roman Legalistic Deception: “Law” (Nomos / Lex)
How did Western religion turn the Torah into a negative curse?
- The Greek Word: Nomos (νόμος):
- When the Hebrew Scriptures were translated into Greek (the Septuagint), translators lacked a word for “fatherly instruction”, so they chose Nomos (civil legislative statutes).
- The Latin Word: Lex (Law):
- Rome, being a brutal militaristic and judicial empire based on imperial police codes, translated Nomos into Lex (from which English gets Law, Legal, Legislature).
- The Theological Trap:
- Church theologians took Shaul (Paul)’s complex debates in Romans and Galatians regarding the rabbinic oral traditions / circumcision legalism (Ma’asei HaTorah / works of the law) and claimed that the entire moral and calendar law of Yahuah was abolished, burdensome, and nailed to a cross.
- This directly contradicts David (“The Torah of Yahuah is perfect, converting the soul”, Psalm 19:7), Yahusha (Matthew 5:17–19), and John (“For this is the love of Aluah, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous”, 1 John 5:3).
📜 The Eternity of the Torah
- Existed Before Sinai: Abraham kept the Torot 430 years before Moses (Genesis 26:5); Noah distinguished between clean and unclean beasts (Genesis 7:2); Enoch walked by the 364-day solar calendar (Jubilees 4).
- Written Upon the Heart in the Renewed Covenant:
“Behold, the days come, saith Yahuah, that I will make a new covenant… I will put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their Aluah, and they shall be My people.”
— Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 31:31–33; Hebrews 8:10
