✦ YAHUSHA BEN NUN (JOSHUA) — יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן נוּן ✦
The Faithful Spy, Commander of the Armies of Yisra’ĕl, and Leader of the 50th Jubilee Jordan Crossing
The Mandate of Courage
“Speak light, not sorcery.” — “Return to the Original Witness.”
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for Yahuah thy Elohim is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
— Yahusha (Joshua) 1:9
“For if Yahusha [Joshua] had given them rest, then would He not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of Elohim.”
— Iḇrim (Hebrews) 4:8–9
🧭 Executive Dossier: The Commander of the Inheritance
Yahusha ben Nun (יְהוֹשֻׁעַ בִּן נוּן), son of Nun of the tribe of Ephraim, was the chosen apprentice, faithful minister (Mesharet), and ordained successor to Mosheh. Originally named Hoshea (הוֹשֵׁעַ — “Salvation”), Mosheh prophetically inserted the divine prefix Yod (י) into his name, transforming him into Yahusha (“Yahuah is Salvation”, Numbers 13:16).
He commanded the front lines against Amalek at Rephidim, dwelt day and night inside the Tabernacle of the Congregation (Exodus 33:11), defied the cowardly multitude at Kadesh Barnea with Caleb, and was commissioned by Yahuah to lead the nation of Israel across the parted Jordan River in the exact 50th Jubilee from Creation (Year 2450 AM) to dispossess the giant clans of Canaan.

🏛️ Section I: The Prophetic Renaming: Hoshea to Yahusha (Numbers 13:16)
When the twelve tribal princes were selected to survey the land of Canaan from Kadesh Barnea:
- The representative of the royal house of Joseph / Ephraim was Hoshea son of Nun (Numbers 13:8).
- Before dispatching them, Mosheh executed a supreme prophetic and theological act:
“And Mosheh called Hoshea the son of Nun Yahusha [Yehoshua].”
— Bemidbar (Numbers) 13:16 - The Etymological Meaning:
- Hoshea (הוֹשֵׁעַ) means “Salvation” (human or passive).
- Yahusha (יְהוֹשֻׁעַ) joins the covenant name YAHU with the root YASHA (salvation), declaring: “YAHUAH IS SALVATION!”
- The Prophetic Typology: Mosheh (the Law) could not lead Israel into the Promised Land. But Mosheh prophetically designated that the one bearing the exact name of the coming Messiah—Yahusha—would lead the seed of Abraham across the waters into their eternal rest (Hebrews 4:8–9)!
🛡️ Section II: Intimacy with the Shekinah (Exodus 33:11)
While all Israel trembled at their tent doors when Mosheh entered the Tent of Meeting, Scripture preserves a breathtaking detail regarding Yahusha’s personal devotion:
“And Yahuah spake unto Mosheh face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Yahusha, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.”
— Shemoth (Exodus) 33:11
- While others treated the Tabernacle as an office of formal duty, Yahusha lingered in the presence of the Shekinah.
- He soaked in the atmosphere of divine glory, learning spiritual warfare not merely from sword tactics, but from absolute immersion in the presence of Yahuah.
⚖️ Section III: The Stand at Kadesh Barnea (Numbers 14:6–10)
When the ten unfaithful spies paralyzed the congregation with fear over the giant Anakim and fortified cities:
- Yahusha son of Nun and Kaleb son of Jephunneh tore their clothes in grief.
- They boldly confronted the terrified, rebellious millions:
“The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. If Yahuah delight in us, then He will bring us into this land, and give it us… Only rebel not ye against Yahuah, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is departed from them, and Yahuah is with us: fear them not!”
— Bemidbar (Numbers) 14:7–9 - The congregation took up stones to stone Yahusha and Caleb to death, but the Glory of Yahuah appeared in the Tabernacle to defend His two faithful witnesses.
- While the entire generation of 603,548 men aged twenty and upward died during the forty years of wandering, Yahusha and Caleb were divinely protected and preserved with undiminished strength!
🌊 Section IV: The 50th Jubilee Jordan Crossing & The Captain of the Host
In the first month of Year 2450 AM, at the end of the forty years:
- The Jordan River Crossing (Joshua 3–4):
- On the 10th day of the first month (Abib/Nisan)—the exact day the Passover lamb was selected in Egypt—Yahusha commanded the priests bearing the Ark of the Covenant to step into the flooding Jordan.
- The waters cut off at the city of Adam, and Israel marched across on dry ground, erecting twelve memorial stones at Gilgal.
- The 50th Jubilee: This crossing marked exactly 50 Jubilees from Adam ( per Yoḇelim 50:4–5), executing the heavenly law of ancestral restoration.
- The Encounter with the Captain of the Host (Joshua 5:13–15):
- Outside Jericho, Yahusha lifted his eyes and saw a Man standing opposite him with a drawn sword in His hand.
- Yahusha approached and asked: “Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?”
- The Figure replied: “Nay; but as Captain of the Host of Yahuah [Sar Tseva Yahuah] am I now come.”
- Yahusha fell on his face to the earth, worshiped, and was commanded: “Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy”—the identical command given to Mosheh at the Burning Bush (Exodus 3:5), revealing this was the pre-incarnate Mashiach Himself!
⚔️ Section V: Conquest of Canaan & Passing at Age 110
Under Yahusha’s leadership:
- The Walls of Jericho Fell: After circling the city once a day for six days and seven times on the seventh day with seven shofars (Joshua 6).
- The Sun Stood Still at Gibeon: Yahusha spoke audibly in the sight of Israel: “Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon” (Joshua 10:12–14; Sefer HaYashar 88:63), giving Israel daylight to completely rout the Amorite confederacy.
- 31 Kings Conquered: All thirty-one Canaanite city-states were systematically dismantled (Joshua 12).
- Tribal Allotments: Divided the land to the nine and a half western tribes by sacred lot at Shiloh (Joshua 18).
- Passing: Died at the age of 110 years (the identical age of his ancestor Joseph, Genesis 50:26), buried in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-Serah in Mount Ephraim (Joshua 24:29–30).
